Wangu means 'mine' in Shona, but as slang it goes beyond possession. Calling someone 'wangu' expresses a deep personal connection — my person, my one, the person I claim. It also appears in expressions of resignation or exasperation: 'ma1 wangu' (my trouble, my situation) is one of the most common phrases in Zimbabwean speech.
